Cross Country

The Helias Crusader Cross Country  teams will compete in District 5, Class 3 in Missouri.  They will run the District meet in Moberly on November 1.

Crusader Cross Country is coached by Head Coach Mary Haskamp and Assistant Coach Rick Baer.  Coach Haskamp is entering the 21st year as Helias' Head Cross Country Coach.  Coach Baer is in his 4th year as an Assistant Coach.

The 2008 Cross Country Teams have 9 girls and 15 boys competing.  The boys team returns six lettermen and have the goal of placing in the top four at the State Championships.  The Lady Crusaders also have six returning letterwinners and are looking to advance to the state meet as a team and finish in the top one half.

    The Mexico Autumn Classic was again a very fast meet. We ran the varsity girls and the junior varsity boys. the jv boys actually ran in the varsity competition and it helped motivate many to a personal best time.     The Borgia race was very challenging this year. With Hoimecoming the same weekend I wonder if all the various activities got in the way of our focus. We still had some great performances though.     The Helias Invitational was another great day for the Crusader Harriers. With only five boys running in varsity they were able to edge out Mexico by two points for the championship in the large school division.     The Crusaders ran well at the Camdenton Inv. on Saturday. Perfect weather, and a fast course meant PR's (*) for several of our athletes. the boys varsity team did well, coming in second to the Jefferson City team, only 9 points back. the girls were again not at full strength, but hopefully the injuries are getting better with rest and cross training...
