Helias at the UCM Tournament

Helias has turned the corner!  They had a GREAT showing at the UCM tournament!!  Helias won their pool on Friday beating Fort Osage 8-5 and Harrisonville 3-0.  By taking first place in their pool they qualified for the Gold Bracket of the tournament for the first time since the 2005 season.  The Crusaders fell to a Eureka team that played fantastic defense, 0-4 in their first game Staurday, but the Crusaders fought back to take the final game of the Tournament 1-0 over Smithville.  A 3-1 record for the tournament placed Helias 5th out of 21 teams.

Helias vs. Fort Osage:

Fort Osage began the game scoring 4 runs in the first inning.  The Crusaders answered by scoring 7 in their half of the first.  McKenzie Hamacher started the game and Nicole Buschjost came in during the second inning to shut down the Fort Osage offense.  The bats came alive for the Crusaders as they were led by the following:

Helias vs. Harrisonville:

McKenzie Hamacher came out with a fantastic performance against Harrisonville.  She struck on 9 on her way to a 2 hit shutout.  Harrisonville squad played great defense keeping the Crusader run total down, but the Crusaders continued to hit the ball hard to all parts of the field.  The Crusader offense was led by:

Helias vs. Eureka:

The Crusaders fell short during their first game Saturday.  Eureka played outstanding defense against the Crusaders and took away many soring opportunities.  although the Crusaders fell 0-4, McKenzie Hamacher recorded 7 strikeouts and the Crusader bats were still working Hard.  Danielle Tobar led the offense with a single and a double against Eureka.

Helias vs. Smithville:

The Crusaders final game of the tournament was a 1-0 victory over Smithville.  It was a long fought battle with a lot of excitement....you had to be there to know the extent of the excitement.  The Helias and Smithville players all worked through obstacles to put together a well fought game.  Lindsey LeCuru led the offense with a double
