The Helias Lady Crusaders took on the Lady Jays Thursday night and came away with a 25-15, 25-16 win. After the Lady Jays took an early 8-3 lead, Helias outscored Jefferson City 22-7. During the run, Helias only allowed one point on a serve by the Lady Jays and earned a side-out 5 straight times. The second set started much like the first one ended with strong serve/receive by Helias. The first seven servers for Jefferson City only netted 2 points as Helias earned five of seven side-outs on the first serve while gaining 14 points off their own serves to take a 21-9 lead. JC quickly scored 6 straight points to pull to within 21-15. Helias then closed out the second set with a 4-1 run. The Lady Crusaders controlled the net though very good blocking (18 total blocks) and a strong attack (21 kills). Chelsea Browner again directed the balanced offensive attack with 16 assists and added 10 digs and 2 blocks on the defensive end for her second straight match with a double double in assists and digs. Lauren Lueckenotte led the team with 7 kills and no hitting errors and two blocks while Jackie Neuner contributed 6 kills and 2 blocks. Megan Distler had 5 blocks while Kelsey Toebben chipped in with 4 blocks. Sarah Buschjost and Amanda Henley each had 4 digs. Callie Norment led all servers with 6 points as 8 different players had 3 points or more. The varsity record is now 21-4-2. The Lady Crusaders travel to Quincy, Illinois this weekend to compete in the 32 team Quincy Notre Dame Raider Classic Volleyball Tournament. District play begins Tuesday, October 28 at 5:00 pm in Waynesville.
The jv won their match against the Lady Jays with a 25-13, 25-13 victory. They will finish their season on Saturday by participating in the Hickman JV Tournament. Their current record is 21-4-2.
The Freshmen B team completed their season with a 27-25, 25-17 win over the Lady Jays B team. Their final record is 11-2-2. The A team lost a hard fought 3 set match 25-21, 22-25, 20-25. Their season ending record is 21-3-1.
