PROGRAM AND SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 1, 2010

 

REGISTERING FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE is required for all men when they turn 18.  Those who fail to register can be denied important opportunities like student loans, government jobs, and a driver’s license in most states.  To register go to:  www.sss.gov

 

COIN 3 INTERNET PROGRAM is FREE TO HELIAS FAMILIES.  This program is an EXCELLENT way to begin the process of CAREER and COLLEGE search. Each student can be issued a password that will allow them to use the COIN 3 either at Helias or at home.  The program is up-to-date and VERY EASY TO NAVIGATE.  We would love all of our students to take advantage of this free opportunity.  If interested, contact one of the counselors and they will issue you the log-in information you need.  Contact:  mflowers@heliashighschool.com or dmathes@heliashighschool.com

THINK OUTSIDE STATE PARKS YOUTH CORPS will offer students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience to prepare for tomorrow’s careers, while enjoying the beauty and grandeur of Missouri’s state parks.  Missouri youth that are 17-21 years of age are eligible to participate.  The pay is $7.25 per hour.  The application is available online at: www.thinkoutside.mo.gov.  For more information, call 1-800-592-6020.

 

THE 2010 FAMILY SMART MONEY AWARD is a $1000 gift which honors a family for raising financially responsible children.  Families who live in Cole County and have at least one school aged child are eligible to compete for this award.  Detailed rules and the official entry forms are available online at: www.ericksonfinancialsolutions.com  or by writing an e-mail to: steve@ericksonfinancialsolutions.com or by calling 635-0942.  Entry forms must be completed and emailed no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 31.  The application is also available in the counseling office.

 

SENIORS:

 

  1. A.J. SCHWARTZE SCHOLARSHIPS are available first to graduating Seniors from Osage County in the top 1/3 of their senior class.  If all scholarships are not awarded among the top 1/3, then seniors form Osage County in the top ½ will be considered.  If Osage County residents do not use all of the scholarships available, then any senior in the top 1/3 of the class will be considered. The scholarship must be used to attend a school in the State of Missouri.  The scholarship is renewable if a GPA of 2.5 is maintained. The scholarship amount varies from year to year but traditionally has been around $2000 per year.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME: MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  2. THE JOSEPH MAYER SCHOLARSHIPS are available to graduating seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.0.  The scholarship considers grade point average, personal character, educational ambition, talent, aptitude test scores and economic need.  Multiple scholarships are given. The scholarship can be used at any college or technical school of students’ choice. The scholarship is renewable if a GPA of 2.0 is maintained.  The scholarship amount varies from year to year but traditionally has been around $1500 per year.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME:  MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  3. KWOS SCHOLARSHIP Sportscasters Scholarship is open to a graduating senior who has a good academic record and has lettered in at least one sport.  This scholarship is worth $500 and is not renewable.  The scholarship can be used at the school of recipient’s choice.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME:  MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  4. BRUNING/STAMPFLI SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship which is available to a graduating senior in the top 25% of their class. Consideration is given to character, financial need and participation in activities.  This scholarship is not renewable.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME: MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  5. THE DONALD AND VIRGINIA CAMPBELL SCHOLARSHIP is a $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who plans to major in BUSINESS OR FINANCE.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME: MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  6. THE BILL QUIGG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 award which is offered to any graduating senior in the top ½ of the class.  This scholarship can be used at any university or technical school of your choice.  The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME: MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  7. THE BISGES SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship open to any student who plans to attend Lincoln University in the fall. The application deadline is March 19 and is available in the counseling office UNDER THE NAME:  MULTI-LIST SCHOLARSHIP.
  8. THE JEFFERSON CITY FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP is a $500 scholarship available to any student interested in PUBLIC SAFETY, LAW ENFORCEMENT, FIRE PROTECTION OR EMT’S.  The application deadline is March 19 and the application is available in the counseling office.
  9. THE CAPITAL REGION FOUNDATION  LEON AND MARIAN TAYLOR SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship offered to a student who plans to pursue a MEDICAL CAREER.  The application is available in the counseling office and the deadline is March 12. 
  10. THE  CAPITAL REGION FOUNDATION WALTER AND NANCY ROTTMANN SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship awarded to a student who plans to pursue a MEDICAL CAREER.  The application is available in the counseling office and the deadline is March 12.
  11. THE CAPITAL REGION DR. JACK AND JIMMY KAY SANDERS SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship awarded to a student who plans to pursue a MEDICAL CAREER.  The application is available in the counseling office and the deadline is March 12.
  12. THE VIOLA SMITH YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP is a $6000 scholarship available to a student who plans to attend LINCOLN UNIVERSITY and major in HISTORY or POLITICAL SCIENCE.  The application deadline is March 26.  The application is available in the counseling office.
  13. THE JOHN AND HELEN COWLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship available to any graduating senior who plans to attend college in the fall.  The application deadline is March 26 and the application is available in the counseling office.
  14. J. PATRICK HEALEY SCHOLARSHIP from the Jefferson City Cantorum is a $500 scholarship awarded to a senior who has shown an exceptional interest in choral music by actively participating in the choral music program and who plans to attend college in the fall, regardless of his/her intended major.  The application deadline is March 8 and the application is available in the counseling office.
  15. JEFFERSON CITY EAGLES CLUB SCHOLARSHIP is a $1500 scholarship open to any graduating senior who plans to pursue college or technical school.  The application deadline is March 26 and the application is available in the counseling office.
  16. THE ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTANTS SCHOLARSHIP is a $400 scholarship available to a graduating senior who plans to major in a BUSINESS related major.  The application deadline is March 2 and the application is available in the counseling office.
  17. FIRST FINANCIAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 offered to a senior who’s a member in good standing at the First Financial Credit Union and who has a GPA of 2.0 or better.  The application deadline is March 16.  The application is available in the counseling office.

 

JUNIORS:

  1. QUESTBRIDGE COLLEGE PREP SCHOLARSHIP program provides more than 1000 awards that equip outstanding low-income high school juniors with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to leading colleges.  By participating in this program, you can access information on full ride scholarships available at schools like Emory University, Harvard, Stanford, Notre Dame, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale.  You can also qualify for awards that provide laptop computers, scholarships to summer programs, all expense paid college visits, etc.  The online scholarship application is free of charge and is due March 29.  To find out more, visit: www.questbridge.org   
  2. JUNIORS EXPLORING ENGINEERING AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY is scheduled for Monday, April 12 from 8-4 p.m. in West Lafayette.  Register now to attend at: www.purdue.edu/wiep Registrations are due by April 5 and are limited to the first 250.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:

1.  AUDREY WALTON YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE is a three day experience filled with exciting seminars based on building leadership skills, a teams challenge course and positive group interaction ALL FREE OF CHARGE.  The conference will take place July 15-17 at the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA.  The three day conference focuses on leadership, higher education, and a healthy lifestyle.  Applications are available in the counseling office and the deadline to register is May 5.

 

ALL STUDENTS:

 

  1.   2.   3.
